10 Red-lip tricks you have to try!

Mastering a great red lip look can be challenging and most women don't even try it. But the good news is that red lips come is all shapes and shades so experimenting is the key to finding the right match... here are some clever options to try.... curtesy of Refinery29.com. Let us know how they work for you.
Powder Up
"One of the main reasons people stay away from red lips is because they bleed into the skin," says makeup artist Clarissa Luna. "To prevent bleeding, powder the lips prior to applying lipstick. This gives the lipstick something to adhere to, allowing the color to stay on all day." Luna adds that she prefers to use NARS' pressed powder "because it lays smoothly on the lips."
Lip Mix
Makeup artist Anthony Tulve says, "If your favorite red is a little too bright for work or a daytime outing, put a gold, or even green, lip product over the lipstick. These tones tame the brightness of the red and give it an unexpected, modern twist."

All About The Balm
We've been taught to prep dry lips with a balm before putting on the red, but makeup artist Janessa ParĂ© says otherwise: "Put lip balm over, not under, your lip color, so the pigment has a chance to absorb in the skin." She adds that this is especially helpful for products that give a stained look. ParĂ© recommends using a balm that's more waxy than oily.

Getting Crafty
Don't throw out that fake blood you bought for your Halloween costume just yet. Makeup artistJames Vincent says: "Fake blood is an ideal color for lips and cheeks, on any face. Sheer a drop of it onto your lips, and blend it on your cheeks for the most beautiful, natural red."

Color Combo
If you can't decide between a warm red and a cool one, makeup artist Lauren O'Jea says to use both. "Apply the cool red to the lips fully, and then add the warm red to the center," she says. "This rounds out the lips and makes them look extra full."

Layer It On
Makeup artist Ashleigh Ciucci says that if you want your lipstick to last all night, don't be afraid to pile on products and textures. "Fill in your entire lip with a waterproof lip pencil. Next, apply a matte lipstick. Smush your lips onto a tissue, and apply another layer of lipstick. Top off with long-wearing lip cream."
Gloss Effect
If you love the full, plumped effect of a lip gloss (but hate the glossy part), Tulve says it's easy to recreate. "Fill in your lip with red, and then take a light shade — think a pastel or even a nude — and tap the color into the center of your bottom lip and along your Cupid's bow. Tap your lips together to blend, and you'll have the illusion of light hitting your pout, but without the stickiness of gloss."
Berry Stain
Going for that just-ate-a-cherry look? Makeup artist Tina Turnbow says: "For a more pigmented center, I like to use my fingertip while making a kissy face, and apply the lipstick to the center of my lips."
Reapply
Going out and don't want to schlep your whole makeup bag? Ciucci says you don't have to: "For a night out on the town with a tiny clutch, load up a retractable lip brush with your lipstick of choice. This way, your have precision reapplication with minimal bulk."
Food Grade
"Cherry Jell-O also acts as an amazing lip stain," Vincent says. "Mix a dash of powdered cherry gelatin into your favorite lip balm, and it will make a bright lipstick color." He also suggests mixing it in with your moisturizer for a DIY cream blush.

Fall Skin Recovery Guide

Get Your Skin Back Into Soft Healthy Condition

Chances are pretty good that summer's fun in the sun has taken a toll on the look and feel of your skin.  Fall is a great time of year to start a new beauty routine or refine the one you have to be kinder and gentler to skin. Take the time this Fall to reverse some of the sun's damage and prepare skin for the cold winter days to come.

Exfoliate and keep your skin hydrated
Does your skin look and feel like leather by the end of summer? Exfoliating skin gets rid of the dry flaky layers from summer tans and helps to generate new fresher, plump skin cells. It also stimulates the blood flow to your face bringing important oxygen to the skin, giving it a fresh, soft, healthier look. There are many ways to exfoliate skin from cleansers with micro beads to AHA serums and fruit enzyme peels. But be careful not to overdue it and pick a product geared to your skin type. Read more...

All About Body Wraps...

Some of the ingredients used in spa treatments -- rosemary, honey, butter, clay, chocolate,
eucalyptus -- sound like they belong in a kitchen or garden rather than in a spa. But these ingredients are used in various types of body wraps, a popular spa treatment. Getting a body wrap can feel good. Some spas promote body wraps as a relaxing, moisturizing treat. Others, though, tout specific body wraps as a way to detoxify, slim down, or deal with cellulite -- claims that may go too far.

What Is a Body Wrap?
When body wraps were first offered decades ago, linen sheets were used, says Susie Ellis, president of SpaFinder, Inc., an industry group based in New York. The wraps were then mostly called herbal wraps. "'Body wraps' is a term that came to mean more than herbal wraps," she says, adding that they became popular in the 1980s and '90s. Eventually, plastic or thermal blankets replaced the linen sheets.

Are you a high risk for skin cancer?

Certain types of skin are at greater risk for developing sun damage and skin cancer. Do you know your skin type? Check out our photos and descriptions to find the one that best matches your skin.

Your skin type is one of the main factors in your risk for skin cancer. There are six skin phototypes, going from light to dark. Individuals with skin types I and II face the highest risk of developing skin cancer, while types V and VI are at the lowest risk.  That is because those with more pigmentation have more natural protection from the sun.  However, people with darker skin can nonetheless get skin cancer. Like light-skinned people, they should be cautious of the sun and have regular examinations by a doctor.

TYPE 1- You always burn and never tan in the sun. You are extremely susceptible to skin damage as well as cancers like basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. You are also at very high risk for melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer. Generally follow The Skin Cancer Foundation's prevention tips but use a sunscreen with a SPF of 30+ and clothing with a UPF rating of 30 or higher. Seek the shade whenever you are out in the sun. Check your skin head-to-toe each month, paying careful attention to any suspicious growths, and make sure you have an annual professional skin checkup.

TYPE 2- You almost always burn and rarely tan in the sun. You are highly susceptible to skin damage as well as cancers like basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. You are also at high risk for melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer. Generally follow The Skin Cancer Foundation's prevention tips but also consider using a sunscreen with a SPF of 30+ and clothing with a UPF rating of 30 or higher. Seek the shade whenever you are out in the sun. Check your skin head-to-toe each month, paying careful attention to any suspicious growths, and make sure you have an annual professional skin checkup.

TYPE 3- You sometimes burn and sometimes tan in the sun. You are susceptible to skin damage as well as cancers like basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. You are also at risk for melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer. Be sure to apply a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day, wear sun-protective clothing, and seek the shade between 10 AM and 4 PM, when the sun is strongest. Check your skin head-to-toe each month, paying careful attention to any suspicious growths, and make sure you have an annual professional skin checkup.

TYPE 4- You tend to tan easily and are less likely to burn. But you are still at risk; use sunscreen with an SPF of 15+ outside and seek the shade between 10 AM and 4 PM. Follow all other Prevention Tips from The Skin Cancer Foundation as well. Check your skin head-to-toe each month, paying careful attention to any suspicious growths, and make sure you have an annual professional skin checkup.

TYPE 5- You tan easily and rarely burn, but you are still at risk. Use sunscreen with an SPF of 15+ and seek the shade between 10 AM and 4 PM. Acral lentiginous melanoma, a very virulent form of the disease, is more common among darker-skinned people. These melanomas tend to appear on parts of the body not often exposed to the sun, and often remain undetected until after the cancer has spread. Check your skin head-to-toe each month, paying careful attention to any suspicious growths, and make sure you have an annual professional skin checkup. Keep an eye out for any suspicious growths, especially on the palms, soles of the feet and mucous membranes.

TYPE 6- Although you do not burn, dark-skinned people are still at risk for skin cancers, and should wear sunscreen with a SPF of 15+ and seek the shade between 10 AM and 4 PMAcral lentiginous melanoma, a very virulent form of the disease, is more common among darker-skinned people. Why do we get sunburn?

Some people tan while some people never tan, but get burnt when they are out in the sun. It depends upon the amount of melanin in the skin. The more the melanin, the darker the skin. Those who don't have the defense of melanin, suffer burning of skin when exposed to sun. Melanin protects skin from the UV radiation by protecting the skin cells. Therefore the sunrays damage skin that has a tendency of getting burnt. Repeated severe burns is not a good thing for your skin. Excess sun exposure is the # one cause of premature aging and may cause skin cancers. Here is how the skin burns in the sun and what you can do to protect the skin.

Sunburn - Symptoms
Sunburn or in medical terms...photodermatitis, is your skin's allergic reaction to overexposure to the sun. It does not appear immediately after exposure. It may be some hours after which the skin becomes red and painful. Sun burnt area may also suffer from swelling. Some blisters may form and fever may be present. The effect of sunburn is worst after about 6 hours of exposure.

Sunburn- Causes
In people, the difference in skin color and the color of eyes largely depends upon the geographical area. Those who live near the equator have the darkest skin color and those staying near the poles have the lightest skin color. The division of skintypes based on how it will react to sun is known as the Fitzpatrick skin type, or phototype of the skin.

There are 6 skintypes- first three types of skin have more tendencies to burn than to tan. The first type will never tan but burn when exposed to sun. Similarly the last type - type six will never burn but always tan. Those who have skin types from one to three face the highest danger of sunburn. Sunburn may be as bad as a second-degree burn and severe extensive sunburn may also cause death.

Sunburn- Damage
Sunburn releases toxins in the skin and repeated sunburns accelerate the skin aging. Sunspots may form, wrinkles may appear sooner and aging is much faster. Along with aging, the probability of getting skin cancer also increases. It is therefore important that you protect yourself from sunburns.
Sunburn- Treatment And Prevention
If the sunburn is minor, you may get relief by taking painkillers, taking cold baths, applying cooling Aloe Vera lotions and using moisturizers. You should consult a doctor if blisters appear or if you get fever.
Sunburn or Sun Posoning?
Symptoms of sun poisoning tend to include nausea, fever, headache, and dizziness and may also be accompanied by fluid loss and electrolyte imbalance. If the burn is more painful or you exhibit any of the systemic symptoms listed above, step up your efforts to cool down and hydrate. Drink plenty of fluids and take a bath in cool (not cold) water. Pat skin dry-don't rub-and stay in a cool environment until your symptoms ease. At any point, if you suffer from extreme pain or vomiting or if your fever grows too hot (over 104 degrees Fahrenheit), head to an emergency room. In more serious cases, a doctor can prescribe an oral steroid to reduce inflammation or administer IV fluids to restore hydration.

Another possible reason for the reaction is polymorphous light eruption (PLE), a UV-sensitive rash that results in blisters or hives. Although PLE causes similar symptoms to sun poisoning, PLE can occur without sunburn. This condition usually affects people who live in the northern hemisphere and is most common in spring or early summer. Skin sensitivity caused by PLE usually fades by itself within 10 days. In order to ease the symptoms, you can treat the blisters the same way you would treat a sunburn.

Treating these uncomfortable symptoms is just one step. It's easier to prevent any kind of sun-related reaction by taking care to cover up, wear liberal amounts of sunscreen, and avoid medications that have been shown to cause an increase in photosensitivity. Taking oral contraceptives, tetracycline antibiotics, certain anti-depressants and acne medications, and St. John's Wort can all increase the occurrence of photosensitivity. In addition, some pre-existing medical conditions such as lupus or vitiligo can increase the risk of sun sensitivity. If any of these risk factors apply to you, make sure you practice safe sun habits. Avoid tanning beds, stay in the shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

For Men

Video Games
Yes, there may be a few head-scratchers on this one, but there are actually a pretty good number of men that fire up their PlayStation 3s and Xbox 360s to play games every night. The one drawback to this gift is that he may end up keeping his eyes on that new game than he does with you this Monday night. If you don't know what kind of game to buy, visit Gamestop and see which ones are popular, then drive to Walmart or Target pick it up! If the lady in your life likes video games, find a friend who works at the Microsoft campus and have them pick up this cute Xbox t-shirt.
Clothing
There’s a good portion of the male population that choose to wear their jeans or shirts until the final seems are hanging on by a thread. Though a man may not be head-over-heels with this gift at first, he will appreciate the new shirt or pair of pants when he’s at work and doesn’t have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction in front of his co-workers.
Athletic Gear
Let’s face it—almost every man participates in some form of athletic activity. A new racket, bat or basketball shoes could give your man that extra boost to claim bragging rights over his friends on the court, field or diamond. A short drive to Play it Again Sports, Swetka Tennis, or Shoreline Links Pro-Shop will give you many opportunities to buy the perfect gift for your sports-loving guy.
Treat your man to dinner
We all know the long-standing tradition of the man taking the woman out and paying the bill. Flip-flopping that old-school belief for one special day may be a nice switch to an old perspective. As long as he doesn’t run up the tab, it should set the stage for a nice evening.
Accessories: wallets, cell phones, etc.
Those willing to go that extra mile to woo their man will knock his socks off with a brand-new designer wallet, an iPad or the newest Smartphone. Though these techno-gadgets may not be the most viable gift option for most women, they’ll certainly guarantee a happy man on Valentine’s Day.

For Women

Take her out to dinner—a really, really nice dinner
Many spots in Mountain View will be offering lavish dinners for lovers. Restaurants like Morocco's, Cucina Venti, Cascal, Don Giovanni, Scratch, Agave, Masa Sushi among others are great options for having a night out on the town. While many restaurants required a reservation, luckily for us in Mountain View we have plenty of restaurants to grab a bite.
Perhaps the most jaw-dropping of all restaurants is Chez TJ. Despite the very steep bill, it would be unforgettable night for a couple if you managed to get a reservation.
Chocolate
This is simple: buy a box of good chocolate, pop in the film "Chocolat," mix a bottle of fine wine, and it’s the closest thing you have to a romantic slam dunk, and probably hundreds of dollars less than the previous suggestion. Try the See's Candies locations in Los Altos or Sunnyvale.
Flowers
To be specific, roses. Get the best looking red stems you can find, maybe get a bouquet or two with a touch of some pink or white roses in the mix, and give them to her in person. Try anyone of these options for some knowledgable help in this area. Whether at work or school, it will make her day.
Lingerie
It’s no-brainer for most men. If she’s ok with it, buy it.
Jewelry
Here’s the one gift that’ll make her eyes sparkle with the same glint the gift has. Women love showing off a new bracelet, necklace or ring. It’s a conversation piece that she will put you in the front and center of when she's talking to her girlfriends.
Remember, these lists are intended to help give you an idea of what to buy a loved one.
Asking them what they want will be the best option for a great start to Valentine’s Day.
